Pentair IntelliFlo Variable-Speed Pumps
The IntelliFlo is the industry's most energy-efficient pool pump and our most-recommended upgrade for East Valley homeowners:
IntelliFlo VSF (Our Top Pick): Variable speed and flow technology automatically adjusts to your pool's exact needs. 3.0 HP equivalent with permanent magnet motor that uses up to 90% less energy than single-speed pumps. Built-in flow meter ensures optimal circulation regardless of filter condition. The gold standard for Arizona pools. Installed: $2,300-$3,500.
IntelliFlo3 VSF: Pentair's newest generation with enhanced digital interface, built-in diagnostics, and improved motor bearing design for longer life in Arizona heat. JEP-compliant for new construction and renovations. Installed: $2,300-$3,500.
SuperFlo VS: Pentair's value-tier variable-speed pump. Excellent energy savings at a lower price point. Drop-in replacement for most existing pump installations with minimal plumbing modification. Great for budget-conscious upgrades. Installed: $2,300-$3,500.
Arizona Energy Savings: APS and SRP electricity rates make variable-speed pump payback faster in the East Valley than almost anywhere in the country. A single-speed pump running 8 hours daily during Arizona summer costs $200-$350/month. An IntelliFlo running optimized speeds costs $30-$60/month — savings of $140-$290/month during peak season.
Pentair IntelliChlor Salt Chlorine Generators
IntelliChlor's reverse-polarity technology is the key reason it outperforms competitors in Arizona's hard water:
IntelliChlor IC-40 (Our Pick for Most Pools): Rated for pools up to 40,000 gallons. We deliberately oversize by installing the IC-40 on pools as small as 12,000 gallons. Running at 30-50% output instead of 80-100% dramatically extends cell life — especially critical in Queen Creek and San Tan Valley well water. Cell: $1,400-$2,200. Complete system: $1,800-$4,000.
IntelliChlor IC-20: For smaller pools and spas up to 20,000 gallons (though we recommend the IC-40 for oversizing benefits). Identical technology at a lower price point. Cell: $1,400-$2,200. Complete system: $1,800-$4,000.
iChlor Salt System: Pentair's budget-friendly salt chlorine generator. Same quality cell construction as IntelliChlor in a simpler package without automation integration. Good for pools without IntelliCenter. Cell: $1,400-$2,200. Complete system: $1,800-$4,000.
Why Reverse-Polarity Matters: Standard salt cells scale from calcium deposits in Arizona's hard water. IntelliChlor's reverse-polarity feature alternates the electrical charge on the cell plates, causing scale to break free before it hardens. This is the single most important feature for East Valley hard water pools.
Pentair Heaters & Heat Pumps
Pentair heating solutions for year-round pool comfort in Arizona:
UltraTemp Heat Pump (Our Top Heating Pick): Titanium heat exchanger resists Arizona's hard water and well water beautifully — zero corrosion risk from calcium or minerals. ThermaFlo technology maintains efficiency down to 40°F ambient. Ultra-quiet operation for close-neighbor communities. Reversible for summer cooling. Installed: $8,000-$9,500 depending on BTU size and electrical requirements.
UltraTemp ETi Hybrid: Built-in electric auxiliary heater for guaranteed performance below 40°F — the best solution for Queen Creek and San Tan Valley where cold air settles into the basin on winter nights. Higher upfront cost but eliminates the "heat pump can't keep up" complaint entirely. Installed: $8,000-$9,500.
MasterTemp Gas Heater: When rapid heating is the priority (spa use, quick pool warmup before events), the MasterTemp delivers. Cupro-nickel heat exchanger resists hard water corrosion better than standard copper. PM kit design makes burner service fast and affordable. Natural gas or propane. Installed: $5,000-$6,000.
MasterTemp 125: Compact gas heater designed specifically for small pools and elevated spas. Perfect for spa-only heating applications. Installed: $5,000-$6,000.
Pentair Pool Filters
Pentair filtration products engineered for Arizona's challenging conditions:
Clean & Clear Plus Cartridge (Our Top Pick): The most popular residential cartridge filter in Arizona. We install the 420 sq ft or 520 sq ft models for maximum dirt-holding capacity — critical during monsoon season when desert dust overwhelms standard-sized filters. Easy cartridge access for quick service. Installed: $1,800-$3,500.
Clean & Clear Plus 320: Standard-size option for smaller pools. Good starting point but we recommend the 420 for most East Valley pools due to dust loading. Installed: $1,800-$3,500.
FNS Plus DE Filter: Diatomaceous earth filtration for the finest water clarity possible — filters down to 2-5 microns vs 10-15 microns for cartridge. Requires backwash plumbing. Excellent choice for pools with algae history or heavy debris. Installed: $1,800-$3,500.
Triton II Sand Filter: Low-maintenance sand filtration for pools where simplicity is the priority. Backwash operation requires no cartridge replacement. Filters to 20-30 microns — adequate for pools with good chemistry and modest debris. Installed: $1,800-$3,500.
Pentair IntelliCenter Automation
Control your entire pool system from a touchscreen panel or your smartphone:
IntelliCenter i10PS: Controls up to 10 circuits — pump speed, salt system, heater, lights, water features, and valves. Full-color touchscreen panel with intuitive interface. ScreenLogic app for remote control from anywhere. Schedule programming, freeze protection, and real-time equipment monitoring. Installed: $3,500-$5,500.
IntelliCenter i5PS: 5-circuit version for simpler pool systems without water features. Same quality panel and app control at a lower price point. Ideal for pools with pump, salt, heater, and lights. Installed: $3,500-$5,500.
ScreenLogic Interface: Adds smartphone/tablet control to existing IntelliCenter systems. Access your pool from anywhere — adjust temperature before you get home, check salt levels from work, or verify freeze protection is active during cold snaps. Add-on: $400-$600.
Why Automate: Beyond convenience, automation protects your equipment. IntelliCenter's freeze protection activates automatically when temperatures drop — critical for Queen Creek and San Tan Valley where overnight lows reach 28-32°F. It also optimizes pump run times and heater schedules to minimize energy waste.

Frequently Asked Questions
It's the line we reach for when someone wants the most efficient, most advanced setup. As an authorized Pentair dealer we install a lot of it across the East Valley, and the IntelliFlo pumps and IntelliCenter automation are genuinely ahead of the pack. It costs more than Hayward or Jandy, so whether it's the best depends on your budget. For top efficiency and the best app, Pentair; if value matters more, we'll point you to a brand that fits and tell you why.
$2,300-$3,500 installed with the plumbing and electrical, and we program the speeds for your pool. The IntelliFlo is about as efficient as variable-speed gets — on Arizona power rates it typically saves $60-$120 a month versus an old single-speed, paying for itself in roughly 10 to 15 months on a normal East Valley pool. We size and set it up so it's actually running at those efficient speeds, not maxed out.
Yes. As an authorized Pentair dealer we install and service the whole residential line: IntelliFlo and SuperFlo pumps, IntelliChlor salt systems, UltraTemp and MasterTemp heaters, Clean and Clear filters, and IntelliCenter automation. We're licensed in Arizona (ROC #349378), most installs go in the same week, and everything carries its full manufacturer warranty, which we register and handle if a part needs service.
IntelliCenter is Pentair's top automation system: a touchscreen and phone app that controls pump speed, salt output, heater, lights, and water features, with scheduling and freeze protection built in. We like it here because you can set the pump to run on off-peak power and let it manage itself. Installed it runs $3,500-$5,500 depending on how many circuits and features it's handling.
On city water, an IntelliChlor cell usually lasts 3 to 5 years. On well water in Queen Creek and San Tan Valley the minerals are harder on it, closer to 2 to 3 years if you don't stay on the cleaning. We install the larger IC-40 even on smaller pools and run it at 30 to 50% output — it makes the same chlorine with far less wear, which is the single biggest thing that extends cell life out here. Replacement cells run $1,400-$2,200.
In Arizona, almost always. We don't install single-speed pumps anymore. Power rates here are high enough that a variable-speed IntelliFlo running slow most of the day saves $60-$120 a month, and it pays back the difference in about a year. It's also quieter and easier on the rest of your equipment. The only time it'd be close is a pool that barely runs, and most East Valley pools run plenty through the summer.
